Check 1
Can the property support the use or expansion you plan?
Evidence to collect
- The applicable local shoreland ordinance and water-body classification
- A survey showing ordinary-high-water, bluff and structure relationships when relevant
- A written zoning or permit response for proposed construction or expansion
Who decides
DNR shoreland rules set statewide minimums. The city, county or township administers the applicable ordinance and may be more restrictive; a surveyor establishes property-specific physical boundaries.
